Katakolo Beach

This is the main beach of the port village itself, located right next to the marina. It is a sandy stretch with calm, crystal-clear Ionian waters, making it incredibly convenient for cruise passengers who have limited time ashore. The beach is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, and its shallow waters make it safe for families with young children.

The atmosphere here is lively during the day, as visitors can combine swimming with a short walk to the nearby cafés and souvenir shops. The view of the fishing boats and yachts anchored in the port adds a charming backdrop. It is not a massive beach, but its proximity to the village center makes it a favorite for a quick and refreshing dip.

Kourouta Beach

Located about 15 kilometers north of Katakolo, Kourouta is one of the longest and most popular sandy beaches in the Elis region. It stretches for several kilometers along the Ionian coast, offering soft golden sand and remarkably clear, turquoise waters. The beach is fully organized with plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas, and beach bars that play relaxing music throughout the day.

Because of its length, Kourouta never feels overcrowded even during peak summer months. The seabed slopes gently, making it ideal for swimming and water sports. Several traditional tavernas line the shore, where visitors can enjoy fresh fish and local dishes right after their swim, making it a complete day-trip destination from Katakolo.

Agios Andreas Beach

This beach is located northwest of Katakolo, near the small village of Agios Andreas. It is a quieter and more secluded option compared to Kourouta, with soft sand and stunning views across the Ionian Sea. The waters here are exceptionally clear and pristine, as the area is less commercialized and sees fewer tourists.

A charming little café operates right on the beach, offering cold drinks and light snacks with a panoramic view. The peaceful atmosphere makes it perfect for travelers who want to escape the crowds and enjoy nature. The beach is also a great spot for watching the sunset, as the sun dips directly into the sea on the horizon.

Agios Ilias Beach

Agios Ilias is a beautiful, less-known beach situated a short drive south of Katakolo. It features a mix of sand and small pebbles, with deep, crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkeling. The surrounding hills are covered in olive groves, adding a lush green contrast to the blue sea.

This beach remains largely undeveloped, meaning no sunbeds or umbrellas are available, which appeals to visitors seeking a more natural and authentic experience. The water is remarkably clean and refreshing, and the calm environment makes it an excellent choice for a peaceful afternoon swim away from the tourist hustle.

Kaiafas Lake

Although technically a lake, Kaiafas is famous for its thermal springs and sandy shores that function like a beach. It is located about 30 kilometers south of Katakolo and is surrounded by lush pine forests. The water is warm due to the natural hot springs that feed the lake, making it a unique swimming experience.

The sandy bottom and shallow edges make it safe for all ages. Many visitors come here for the therapeutic properties of the mineral-rich waters, which are known to help with various ailments. The combination of forest, sand, and warm water creates a surreal landscape that feels completely different from the typical Ionian beaches.
